Humans of Omise: Benjamin Ng
How did you learn about Omise and what made you decide to join us?
Through a friend whom she needed help to shortlist a payment gateway for her company’s e-commerce store. Being an “OCD” I like the fact that Omise’s checkout page is clean and tidy, and also pays attention to the overall UI and UX of the solution. That made me gain more interest in learning more about the company and here I am today.
What were you doing before you joined Omise?
I worked as a Business development / Sales manager doing merchant acquiring for an in-store Chinese QR (Alipay / WeChat Pay) payment acceptance company here in Singapore.
What do you do here and what does your typical day look like?
I work as a Business Development / Sales manager here. On a typical day you can see me walking in and out of telephone booths making calls, writing emails to potential merchants and following up. I also process new merchant applications (KYC) and extend a helping hand to support customers.
What do you enjoy the most from working at Omise?
Being able to help merchants resolve their payment needs and telling friends “hey their payments is processed by my company”. Not forgetting the colleagues whom I’ve been working with (directly / indirectly).
What do you find the most challenging at Omise and how do you handle it?
When I’m unable to help resolve the merchant's issues due to the lack of solutions and product capabilities. Setting the expectations right by keeping merchants informed of what we can and what we can’t support. Working with internal and external parties to resolve the issues whenever possible.
How do you define success?
The ability to explore and do what I want without much constraints.
What do you like to do when you’re free from work? Do you have any hobbies?
Weight training and car racing! If time and money permits, you’ll see me on track most days :D
Since you like to workout, which exercise/workout position would you pick if it was the only thing you could do everyday for the rest of your life and why? 😏
Pull ups! This exercise activates the back muscles which helps to strengthen the spine. Plus, you don’t need expensive equipment to do this exercise.
You’ve visited the Bangkok office twice! What was your favourite thing to do here and what would you like to do next time you visit Thailand?
Eating and exploring all the cool stuff around the Siam area. I’d love to visit Ayutthaya and check out the ancient city.
If you could witness a historical event, what would you want to see and why?
I would be keen to witness World War II as I am curious to learn how people quickly came together to protect their land and family members from danger. Also, the many ideas and strategies that they had to win the war.
We're looking for great people to join our team
